About Us

United Nations Association Scotland (UNAS) is a civil society charitable organisation committed to advancing the mission and values of the United Nations. There are 8 branches: Aberdeen, Alloa, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Highlands and Islands, St Andrews and Stirling. UNAS works to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Scotland through the work of its 8 branches and its outreach and research arm, UN House Scotland (UNHS).

The organisation has also fostered strong partnerships with organisations across the country and has maintained its link with UNA-UK as one of its regional branches.

Our History

The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) was founded in 1946, shortly after the second World War, and coordinates over 100 UNAs across the world.

The UNA-UK branch itself was formed in 1945 with more local branches forming shortly after. UNA Scotland eventually formed and became a charity in 2018 with direct involvement from members in deciding the policy of the organisation being a key component to its operation. Today, while UNAS is still very much a part of UNA-UK, the branches take their own lead in conducting activities.
